Saving the Planet?

Who would know more about saving than a Saviour?

And who would bring more intelligence to the welfare of a planetary population than the Creator who made both the people and the planet? Seems obvious – doesn’t it? Sadly, it’s not at all obvious to most of our fellow earthlings. Everyone but God gets invited to join our ‘think tanks’ these days. Even more sadly, His wisdom seems equally unfashionable in the western Church – if you can call it ‘church’ where God’s wisdom is unwanted. Sword has one great concern: to encourage a restored appetite for God’s wisdom in those Bible-believing churches (is there any other kind?) which, for all their confidence in the Gospel, are clearly ailing and declining towards extinction. I believe we need the realism to admit that this is happening. Not with any sense of condemnation (‘if God be for us who can be against us?’), but with a quiet confidence that ‘the Lord confides in those who fear Him’. Strangely, many other Gospel-confident churches are visibly growing (and it’s not all ‘sheep stealing’!). I believe we need fresh humility to seek the Lord and let Him speak…
